Oscar Martinez arrived in the United States in 2004 with a dream—to build a better life for himself and his family. His passion for food and hospitality led him to his first job at the Southbridge Hotel, followed by a position as a dishwasher at Silverado Brewing Company. Determined to rise in the culinary world, Oscar committed himself to learning everything he could, knowing that every challenge brought him one step closer to his goal of becoming a chef.
His dedication quickly paid off. Within just five months, Oscar earned his first opportunity in the kitchen as a prep cook. Shortly after, he joined Market Restaurant in St. Helena, CA, as a Pantry Cook, where he pushed himself to master new skills every day. Over time, his hard work and talent propelled him through the kitchen ranks, ultimately earning him the role of Sous Chef. Today, Oscar proudly serves as Chef de Cuisine, working closely with Executive Chef and Owner Ernesto Martinez to develop Market's signature menus and recipes.
For over two decades, Market Restaurant has been a cornerstone of Napa Valley's dining scene, known for its welcoming atmosphere, fresh seasonal ingredients, and refined yet approachable cuisine. Oscar plays a key role in maintaining this legacy, ensuring every dish reflects the heart and soul of Napa Valley. His dedication to continuous learning and innovation keeps Market's menu exciting and memorable for both locals and visitors exploring St. Helena's renowned wine country.
