Ernesto Martinez - Executive Chef & Owner

Born in Mexico City, Ernesto Martinez has been a dedicated part of the Napa Valley culinary community since 1993. His journey in hospitality began with humble roots, working at Spring Street Restaurant in St. Helena, CA, alongside his brother-in-law and business partner, Roman Flores. His passion for food and hospitality quickly propelled him through the ranks, with key roles at Rutherford Grill, Napa Valley Grille, and Auberge du Soleil, before becoming Sous Chef at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone.

In 2004, Ernesto joined Market Restaurant in St. Helena and was quickly promoted to Executive Chef. Just four years later, in 2008, he and his partners took ownership of Market, ensuring it remained a beloved Napa Valley dining destination. In addition to Market, Ernesto also co-owns and operates Napa Valley Bistro in downtown Napa, further expanding his commitment to exceptional dining experiences in Napa Valley.

For 22 years, Market has been known for its warm, unpretentious atmosphere, welcoming both locals and visitors alike. Ernesto’s goal is to make Market a home away from home for anyone exploring St. Helena and Napa Valley wine country. Working closely with local wineries, he curates menus that complement the region’s world-class wines, allowing guests to experience the full essence of Napa Valley with every meal.
